SAU 43 Seeks New Home
Newport’s SAU 43 is looking for a new home. Their current location on Depot Street in Newport is costing approximately $42,000 a year for rent plus utilities, and the lease is up in July. The SAU has been receiving $20,000 a year from Sunapee under an agreement entered before Sunapee left SAU 43. Once its lease ends so does the SAU’s agreement with Sunapee along with additional funding. The SAU 43 is looking to cut costs and looked at putting the SAU offices in Richards, Towle or Newport Middle High School, but costs to renovate for separate entrances and handicap accessibility would be costly. The SAU seeks input from the public and will be holding a public meeting, but no date has been set.
DHMC Enhancing Security
DHMC is enhancing it’s security. While established hospital visiting hours at DHMC will not change, visitors will only be able to enter the facility using the North Entrance (from 8 pm to 11 pm) or the Emergency Department (ED) entrance (from 11 pm to 5 am). Visitors will be greeted by members of Security and will need to show a form of identification in order to be registered, and given a temporary pass. Dartmouth-Hitchcock and Geisel School of Medicine staff and students will still be able to enter the facility at any entrance with a badge reader at any time. If they do not have a badge, they will be required to go thorough registration at one of the two controlled entry points to obtain a temporary badge.
Patients will be expedited through the ED entrance and registered through existing processes, says Karen Clements, RN, director of Emergency and Patient Placement Services at DHMC and a member of the core project team. “The change will enhance security and safety of the ED, which is a high-volume and high-risk area, while helping us to quickly identify ED patients as they come in,” she says. “Staff can support our efforts by not using ED parking.
