Croydon Students’ Schooling in Jeopardy
The education of four Croydon students attending private schools is in jeopardy. Early this week the State Board of Education order SAU 43 to stop all tuition payments to private schools for Croydon. In 2012, Croydon voted to end its area agreement with Newport but remained under the agreement as required until the fall of 2014. Currently Croydon pays up to $15,000 per student to out of district for private schools. Three of their students attend Newport Montessori School and one attends Kimball Union academy. Chair of the Croydon School Board, Jody Underwood says the RSAS are ambiguous . Both of the schools are approved for attendance by the state of NH. The order comes after Newport School board wrote to the State Board of Education in January, challenging Croydon ending its area agreement. Virginia Barry Commissioner of the NH Board of Education was not available for comment. The Croydon School Board is meeting with their attorney on Monday.
Vermont State Trooper Under Investigation
A Vermont state trooper is under investigation on suspicion of driving under the influence. The Vermont Attorney General’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine if that trooper Eric Rademacher out of the Rutland Barracks is a criminal violation. The trooper is on paid administrative leave by the Vermont State Police pending any possible personnel action.
Vermont State Police Director Colonel Tom L’Esperance expressed his extreme disappointment in the trooper’s alleged actions. “This will be fully investigated by the Vermont State Police and the Vermont Attorney General’s office. All Vermont State Troopers are expected to abide by the laws of this state, and are held to a higher standard than the public in the way that they conduct themselves.”
Veterans Celebrate Creative Art
Veterans took part in the 6th annual Veteran Creative Arts Festival. Vermont and New Hampshire Veterans contestants displayed original artwork, performed music, read poetry, and previewed video creations. The February event was the biggest to date with 40 entrees and over 90 Veterans, staff, and community members in attendance. The White River Junction VA hosted the event.
VSP Investigating Woman’s Death
The Vermont State police are investigating the death of an unidentified woman found off I-91 just after 3 pm yesterday. The body was discovered in a wooded area adjacent to the Westminster rest area on I-91. The Vermont State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation detectives The Vermont State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation detectives are investing what appears to be a suicide. Police are not rele3asing the name and say there are no safety concerns to the general public.
Chester Man Arrested on Warrant
James Shields, age 38, of Chester VT was arrested on an active warrant when he was found to be a passenger during a motor vehicle stop. Shields was arrested on a warrant for the charges of Driving While License Suspended-Criminal. Shields failed to appear for an arraignment last month. Bail on this warrant is set at $500.00 cash or surety. Shields was taken to Southern State Correctional Facility without incident.
